What is Hypnosis?

My husband, Ed,  and my kids, Lee and Ellie, and I were talking about this site and what I’m doing with it during supper the other night.  (I know – I’m pretty lucky that they care!)

Ed said, “Well, meditation and hypnosis are the same thing.”

BOING!  My eyes popped out of their sockets and became big, rotating spirals.  I have been touting off about the mind, hypnosis, meditation, etc. for the last 20 years and he still thinks hypnosis and meditation are the same thing?!  Where had I gone wrong?  :)

I told Ed that hypnosis and meditation are totally opposite.

Hypnosis shuts you off from the external world.  It relaxes your mind and body, and the words spoken are to influence your subconscious mind.  Some people find this scary or intimidating.  It should be neither.  You see, your subconscious is the main driving force for whatever is going on in your life.  It is the very reason you are experiencing all that you are at this second.  And this second.  And that second last week.  And that second you will experience two weeks from now.  It accumulates all of your thoughts, all of your beliefs, and acts accordingly… even allowing stress and anxiety.  To really get to the root of your issues (stress, anxiety, weight, finances, happiness, etc.) you MUST change those thoughts in your subconscious mind.  Hypnosis does this and does it very well.  Hypnosis will allow your conscious mind to power down so good, new, positive words can be placed in your subconscious.  It’s like reprogramming a computer.  It puts new things in, and takes old things out so you can do what you want it to do.

Meditation, on the other hand, is opposite because it brings you to a place where you are fully aware.  Aware of your breath.  Aware of feelings.  Aware of thoughts.  Aware of physical sensations.  Meditation allows you to be present, in the moment.  This is just as important as hypnosis (although completely different) because meditation will center your emotions.  It brings everything to the here and now.  It allows you to simply “be”.  Even though you might have a gazillion things going on in your life – meditation will turn all of those things off and you can simply enjoy the moment.

Back to hypnosis…

In a broader sense, hypnosis will allow you to make changes on a level that will quickly make permanent changes in your life – changes that you want.

I could really go on and on about hypnosis and the subconscious mind; but I just (last night) found a program that explains it really well.  I have been listening to it since I bought it, and completely fell in love with it.  In fact,  I am a tad jealous that Dr. Steve G. Jones put together this program and not me.  It is phenomenal and worth every cent.  Definitely check it out.
